YORK COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA — The community is mourning the tragic loss of Johnny Ramsey, who died following a motorcycle crash on Sunday evening in York County.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 5 p.m. on June 21 at the intersection of Garvin Road and Ashe Road near York. Investigators reported that Ramsey was traveling southbound on Garvin Road on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when a Ford Expedition entered the roadway from Ashe Road.
Authorities stated that the SUV turned into the path of the oncoming motorcycle. In an effort to avoid a collision, Ramsey attempted to take evasive action but lost control of his motorcycle during the maneuver. Officials confirmed that there was no physical contact between the motorcycle and the SUV.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and provided medical assistance before transporting Ramsey to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. At this time, no information has been released regarding potential charges, and the investigation remains ongoing.
